I Feel Old
Today is the 10 year anniversary of the movie release of Clueless. I’m a little embarrassed to admit this but Clueless was probably the most watched movie by my girlfriends and I in high school. I even have the sound track! It does bring back allot of fun memories though. I just can’t believe its been ten years already. So, to all those who were or are fans. Happy Anniversary!
“Fearing not that I’d become my enemy / In the instant that I preach”
A couple of weeks ago I watched Fahrenheit 9/11 and last night I balanced the scales by watching Michael Moore Hates America. I can’t say either is all that good, although one definitely has fewer blatant lies, but the later has a quote (post title) from a Bob Dylan song as one of it’s core themes so it gets brownie points from me. Actually it’s not really fair to compare the two films as they are not of the same caliber. One is a big budget current events analysis while the other is modest budgeted guide of how to not be like Michael Moore.
The best part of either movie is, if you can excuse the incessant cursing, the segments with Penn Jillete in Michael Moore Hates America (he’s the one that quotes Bob Dylan). As an entertainer he makes a case for how terribly dishonest it is to mix comedy and documentary film making like Michael Moore does. I have to agree that one of most annoying things about both the Moore films I’ve seen (also saw Bowling for Columbine) is when he makes complex issues into trivial, misleading jokes, all the while sounding very serious.
I liked a classic movie!
Maybe they are too sophisticated for me or it could be that I don’t appreciate good acting or perhaps my imagination relies too much on high-tech special effects but, for whatever reason, I don’t enjoy classic movies. Actually, that’s not really fair to say since I really haven’t seen that many, but the few I have seen haven’t been too impressive. I’m talking about movies like Citizen Kane which is supposed to be one of the greatest movies ever. My goodness that movie sucks!
Anyway, as the title of this post indicates I finally saw a classic movie that I really enjoyed. It’s called Friendly Persuasion and I recommend it to friend and foe alike, even those with families. Read the rest of this entry »
Sudoku And A Movie
Kristen and I watched Starsky and Hutch and played Sudoku this afternoon. Actually, since Kristen’s games were a lot longer than mine I ended up watching lots of the movie and playing a little sudoku. :) Anyway, get on the bandwagon and start wasting your time. I played my first game yesterday in the L.A. Times and today we were playing at www.websudoku.com. Oh yeah, Starsky and Hutch was pretty funny.
I like Netflix and all, but…
somtimes it just takes too much effort to go all the way to the mailbox for the movies.
