Serious or Screwball

“The less confident you are, the more serious you have to act.”

- Tara Ploughman

Acquaintances often think I’m a very serious person. People closer to me say I’m obnoxiously facetious. I’m wondering if I should be more confident around people I don’t know that well. I’m guessing they’re alright not knowing the real me.

you should take the myers-briggs test. i think it would say you are an introvert. and i don’t agree with tara. that is way too big of a generalization. there are so many other factors besides just confidence that go into how “serious” you are. and i don’t think you are obnoxiously facetious. but dad does. just kidding. i think you are hilarious. it’s genetic. you get it from your mother’s side.

I figured out why I don’t joke around with people who I do not know, but I don’t want to explain the whole thing on a web log so you will have to speak to me in person.

That comment was kind of like calling someone to let them know you just sent them an email (without mentioning the contents), or emailing someone asking them to call you on the phone.

i can tell you why randy doesn’t joke around with people he doesn’t know. but he won’t let me tell you, unless it’s in person. so you’ll have to call him and ask him if you can talk to me, then call me and find out when you can come over so we can talk in person. but he’ll probably say no, so don’t bother.

  5. Randy Says:

I don’t care if you tell, mom. I just don’t want to type it all out. Actually, I do care if you tell because I don’t want to take the chance of you communicating my thoughts inaccurately.

I did not notice Jared’s comment until I already submitted my previous comment.

Actually my first comment was just like (and by that I mean exactly like) someone who wanted to acknowledge that he had read this post but did not care enough to go into detail about my (I mean his) thoughts, and would rather have RL discussions when it comes to subjects of value.

  7. JaredB Says:

I know, I was just messing with you. But if you really don’t care enough about it to comment, why post a comment at all, just to say that you’re not commenting?

Also, are you implying that written conversations are somehow inferior to verbal ones?

  8. Nate Says:

I think Randy is implying that it is *easier* to have a verbal conversation than a written.

  9. Nate Says:

And his comment has more information than just that he was not going to comment. It informed us that he has figured out why he shouldn’t joke around with people he doesn’t know.

  10. Nate Says:

And somtimes it’s nicer to have a conversation that’s not on a public forum.

i was kidding. i thought you were joking too, randy. i like RL better. i’m also really excited that i learned a new abreviation. RL. that’s my new word.

  12. Randy Says:

It’s almost considered a bad word in the MMORPG arena.
